Polycarbonate (Lexan) Overlays
Our factory custom designs and fabricates polycarbonate (Lexan) overlays that are ideal for recessed moldings, switch assemblies, and front panel graphics. We meet any Lexan overlay design requirement such as backlighting, panel cut-outs and harsh/hazardous environmental conditions. Selective or full surface texturing options are available for hard coats as well as aesthetic enhancements.

With conventional screen and digital printing processes, our factory fabricates a wide variety of polycarbonate overlays for production quantities ranging from one piece to thousands. Most overlays are produced by printing on the second surface (on the back) to protect the image and utilize the added effects provided by the material surface conditions (matte, velvet, gloss, etc. ).

Graphic overlays are designed as a way in which the end-user interacts with the product.  It is normal for a membrane switch to be covered with a graphic overlay.  The overlay also works to display critical operating information to the user, and also protect the printed electronics within the membrane keypad.  Typically, information is displayed in a graphic format such as buttons, icons, or touchpoints...

When used in capacitive touch circuits, the graphic overlay contains icons or symbols that when touched, activate functions in the product.  In Membrane switches, the Graphic Overlay is the embossed outermost layer that the electrical dome switches sit below.  They also contain decorative graphics that instruct the users on how to interface with the their products.

A well-designed user interface improves the usability of the product and the satisfaction of the operator. Knowing how your product will be used is key in knowing how to layout your overlays and buttons.
