A membrane switch is a momentary electrical contact on/off switch that activates or deactivates an electric circuit. These are sometimes called single pole, single throw, normally open (SPSTNO) switches. Custom membrane switches are manufactured by screen printing the circuit directly onto a plastic substrate with silver or carbon conductive ink. The simple, versatile, durable, and economical design of a custom membrane switch makes it a superior alternative to the mechanical switch.


Membrane switches, also known as touch keyboards, membrane panels, etc., are made of soft materials such as PC, PVC, PET, FPC and double-sided tape, using screen printing technology to produce a multi-plane combination sealed set of graphics, buttons, A plastic electronic product that integrates marking and symbol display, conductivity and electronic switch functions.


The membrane switch film panel is a popular word mark and trademark that integrates decoration and functionality in recent years. Print established graphics, text descriptions, transparent windows, etc. on flexible plastic materials such as PVC, PC, PET, etc., and paste different types of double-sided tape to make plastic products used for identification and protection.   • Rear adhesive with liner                



Membrane Switch Materials Ideas

The graphic overlay surface or faceplate material is one of the main considerations in designing a customized membrane switch, with polycarbonate and polyester being the most commonly used materials. 

Polycarbonate is clearer, easier to fabricate and print but is less durable in constant use. 

Polyester is more challenging in its manufacturing, however it is more durable and has better resistance to environmental conditions. 

Polycarbonate is less expensive than polyester, but the difference is minimal and this is not usually a major consideration.
