A membrane switch is generally a thin, flexible steel sheet with an insulating film interposed between the lower plate (circuit board copper foil or other metal sheet).

When pressing the membrane switch, and the white steel sheet will lower deformation. Meantime contact with the lower plate is conductive. 

Once the hand leaves, the white steel sheet bounces back and the circuit is broken.


In fact, the membrane switch is a panel-type button boards that is keyboard or keypad. Most of us are familiar with these names.
